Description
Written for the famous Sutro Sisters, this “Petit Dialogue sur Divers Ton”, shows the work of both the composer and the artists in preparing the work for performance. The score shows multiple changes and corrections in one hand (most likely de Pachmann’s) with notes throughout in a second hand (most likely one or the other of the sisters who were notorious for ‘adjusting’ works to fit their technique and ability). Please do not hesitate to email for more pictures.Lionel (Leonide) de Pachmann was the son of famed pianist Vladimir dePachmann, well known primarily for his interpretations of Chopin. Lionel, while a talented performer also, was often approached to compose for various musicians in a variety of instruments.
“Piano....forte...dolce...(Petit Dialogue sur Divers Tons)”Lionel de Pachman, November 1924. Notated for “1st Clavier” and “2nd Clavier” and heavily notated. The manuscript has 12 pages including the corrections. Many many examples of changes pasted over the original as well as several staffs cross-crossed out and replaced. The final page has most of the page crossed out and replaced on the final page with de Pachmann’s signature at the end. There are notes in a second hand at the top and throughout. Fascinating piece of piano history. Lionel’s father was probably one of the most famous pianists of his era; Lionel composed for many artistis besides the Sutro sisters. There is some debate as to the author of this piece: was it written by Vladimir and transcribed by Lionel from a Chopin work? Or is it an original piece of work by Lionel? There is no doubt that it is written for Rose and Ottilie Sutro. Again, do not hesitate to email for more pictures.
