    Antique Chinese Hand Painted Porcelain Brush Pot w/ A Long-tail Red Bird
    ; Up for sale is this porcelain brush pot with hand painted a long-tail red bird perching at the branch of a plant, dated 19
    th
    century in the Tongzhi period of Qing Dynasty (1861-1875).
    The brush pot in a cylindrical form was hand painted of a plant, likely a peony plant, blossomed with beautiful red flowers. The branch of the plant was perching a crowned bird with red feathers and a long tail. Above the scene lied a line of inscription in calligraphy “
    少山主人作
    ”, meaning
    “Written by Master Shaoshan”, who
    was active in the late period of the Qing Dynasty from a Google search.
    While his
    birth and death were not definitely clear,
    Shaoshan
    ’s artistic creation on porcelain paintings was characterized by huge flowers and thin branches.
    The bottom of the pot bore a
    four character mark in red under glaze, showing “
    同治年制
    “, the same as
    “Tongzhi Nian Zhi”, meaning “Made in the Tongzhi period”.
    Measures: Dimensions, 4 ½” high x 3” rim diameter; Weight, 12 oz (345 grams).
    Condition: Very good and clean, with no chips, cracks, or repairs.
