Antique Chinese Hand Painted Porcelain Brush Pot w/ Tripods
; Up for sale is this porcelain brush pot with hand painted tripods, dated 19
th
century in the Tongzhi period of Qing Dynasty (1861-1875).
The brush pot in a cylindrical form was painted in relief of a tripod and a four-legged tripod as plant stands in which two different plants were planted to grow beautiful flowers. Both tripods clearly showed the differences, not only on the shapes, mouths, and handles, the geometric motifs for decoration also showed the differences. In between the two tripods, there were two lines of inscription in calligraphy:
“
吉羊如意
” and “
永作主用
”, meaning “Good luck as one wishes” and “Forever useful for the lord”. The bottom bore a
four character mark in red under glaze, showing “
同治年制
“, the same as
“Tongzhi Nian Zhi”, meaning “Made in the Tongzhi period”.
Measures: Dimensions, 4 5/8” high x 3” rim diameter; Weight, 12 oz (345 grams).
Condition: Very good and clean, with no chips, cracks, or repairs, likely with very mild paint loss, consistent with age and use.
