ELSA LANCHESTER Owned Novelist/Writer Bentz Plagemann 2 Script THIS IS GOOGLEUp for sale are ELSA LANCHESTER owned early and later draft of novelist / writer BENTZ PLAGEMANN (1913-1991) scripts of a play titled THIS IS GOOGLE. Plagemann wrote several novels based on his experiences in the navy in WWII. His first novel was 1941's WILLIAM WALKER and his last 1990 AN AMERICAN PAST. His book THIS IS GOOGLE: OR THE EDUCATION OF FATER" was published Jan 1, 1960. There are no dates on the play and I cannot find any record of it being produced so my guess is the play came first and then he adapted it into a novel, but it may have been the other way around. The draft with the green binder has pencil notations and changes that are reflected and printed in the later draft in the red binder. Again, both of these scripts were the property of legendary actress Elsa Lanchester that she kept until the end of her life. She held on to many things that belonged to her husband Charles Laughton as well. My guess this property was given to Charles Laughton to either direct as a play or a film. Either that or it was given to Charles or Elsa to consider playing one of the roles. Either way, she held on to the scripts.
I recently scored a terrific box of memorabilia from actress Elsa Lanchester (1902-1986). I believe the box had been kept for years after her death by a friend of hers or possibly someone with a connection to her assistant, but there are many of her personal items including several cards from friends, scripts, photos, her personal sheet music and much more.
These two THIS IS GOOGLE scripts were among the contents of the box I purchased.
Ms. Lanchester was nominated for 2 Academy Awards and won 1 Golden Globe Award for WITNESS OF THE PROSECUTION. She starred in over 60 films and 40 television shows. Her films include: MURDER BY DEATH, WILLARD, BLACKBEARD'S GHOST, THAT DARN CAT!, MARY POPPINS, BELL BOOK AND CANDLE, WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, LES MISERABLES, THE BISHOP'S WIFE, THE RAZOR'S EDGE, LASSIE COME HOME and maybe most famously, 1935's THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. One of her famous quotes about her career was that she had "large parts in lousy pictures and small parts in big pictures". In spite of all her on camera success she always said she was "happiest performing in front of an audience" which is did frequently. She was famously married to actor Charles Laughton.
*Please note that my shipping time is up to 5 business days as I have multiple jobs and can only ship one day a week. If you happen to purchase after I return from the post office on shipping day it will be a full week wait until I am able to ship again. But most people will have a much shorter wait and some will have very fast shipping. No one will have to wait more than 5 business days. Thank you for understanding.
