Draft script for the 1976 play, which premiered on May 18, 1976 at the Little Theatre for a run of 396 performances, closing on October 30, 1978, copy number "#13" written in holograph marker on top right of title page.
Inspired by the August 1907 murder of Sr. Mary Janina Mezek. Named best Broadway Play of 1976 in the annual Best Plays book.
Set in 1911 in Michigan, a Roman Catholic priest on trial for a nun's murder. Milan Sitt wrote the screenplay for the 1979 film adaptation directed by Stanley Kramer (his final film), and starring Dick Van Dyke, Kathleen Quinlan, and Maureen Stapleton.
