  • Condition: The Sty of the Blind Pig paperback. 7 3/4 by 5 3/4 inches. 72 pages. Never used. A small mark on front cover. Very minor edge wear from handling. The first 4 page tops are starting to discolor about 1 1/2 inches down- due to aging? Also first page shows discolor down the edge. No writing, dog ears, loose, missing, stained pages. Has been kept in a plastic sleeve and on a closet book shelf since new. Please see photos.

    The play is about what happens when Blind Jordan (street singer) wanders into the lives of a Southside Chicago family, unmarried, emotionally thwarted Alberta; her subtly domineering, religion-obsessed mother Weedy; and Weedy's gambling-addicted brother Doc. The play's backgrou;nd is the civil rights movement. The Sty of the Blind Pig premiered off-Broadway in 1971 by the prestigious Negro Ensemble Company.
    Phillip Hayes Dean was born  in Chicago in 1931 and was an American stage actor and playwright. He was an acting instructor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  Won the Dramatists Guild Hull-Warrior award and Drama Desk award in 1972 for The Sty of the Blind Pig. He passed in 2014 in Los Angeles, (Wikipedia and other sources).
