The United States Freight Company revolutionized the freight distribution business by building a model that allowed the company to puck up small lots of cargo from various shippers, consolidate them onto to trailer trucks or containers, and ship the containers cross country via rail.
The company later became a subsidiary of the New York Central railroad.
