    Description

USMA West Point 1940's Bathrobe With a Back Story.
Two rascals ,boys, met  around 1930 while living in the Philippines where their fathers were US Army officers.  One followed his fathers path and became part of the West Point class of 1943.  The other, smitten by the sea during the long passages across the ocean to duty stations, became part of the United States Naval Academy class of 1944.
The rivalry between the two Academies is fierce,  especially when it comes to football.  The customary "bet" between Midshipmen and Cadets on the Army/Navy game was their bathrobe.  Well, my Dad, the Midshipman, won the bet and wore his trophy for years .
He even got to gloat to the looser occasionally over the years because his sister married another Naval Academy graduate....the brother of the West Point Cadet!
What happened to the two men?  .  The West Point Cadet, Howard , became an English professor, a "P", at the Academy in the 1950's.  The Annapolis Midshipman, Joe, was seriously injured when a Japanese kamikaze struck the destroyer where he was a gunnery officer.
Both went on to lead fulfilling lives.  Both are interred at their beloved Academies.
The bathrobe is a soft, cozy piece of history.  It shows signs of wear around the cuffs and has a small hole above the crest.   Metal buttons are attached.  Please refer to photos for condition.   It is in overall good shape for an 80 year old bathrobe!
Proceeds go to Families Helping Families a charity for foster children.  Please look carefully.  No returns.
