    Description

    Vintage Hand Carved and Ink Chinese Bamboo Brush Pot 12”  *** This beautiful Pi T’ung features a motif of mountains, boats, pagodas / temples, and birds.  Measuring almost 12” tall with a diameter of 4-3/8”, the bottom has notches carved in the base, with a border featuring sun rays and a geometric design.  The top rim has a border with scroll work.  On the bottom of the bamboo pot is handwritten pencil which reads A209 * 12”.
    A brush pot is a container for holding the brushes used by scribes for Chinese calligraphy. These are typically carved from bamboo or jade with ornate motifs symbolizing concepts such as longevity.
    In gently used condition with no chips or cracks, and minimal scratches in the varnish.
