    Description

Vintage Rare The Manlius School Military Academy New York Hat Cap w/ Pin
Rare military field cap with visor and a Manlius School gold eagle pin on the front. Inside plastic covering is stamped with the academy insignia and name. I believe it is wool or a wool-blend material with a plastic visor. Great condition, has been preserved well. Navy blue with red accents and gold hardware.
The Manlius School was a top military school in the United States in the mid-20th Century. It had been founded as the St. John's School in 1869 in a building of the former Manlius Academy (founded in 1835) in Manlius Village on the corner of Seneca and Academy Streets. St. John's School reorganized as St. John's Military School in 1881 and hired General William Verbeck to run the school in 1887. It was one of the top military academies in the country and at one point served as a feeder school for West Point. The Manlius School, as it became known as, faced dwindling attendance and merged with Pebble Hill School in 1970. The Manlius School campus was sold to a private developer in 1979.
